Microsoft Excel – Adding colour scales

In this tutorial we will be adding colour scales to the cells within our Excel spreadsheet, this function will apply a gradient fill to our cells and help give us a better idea of where each cell sits within range of others.

To add colour scales to your Excel spreadsheet carry out the following steps.

  1. Highlight the cells for which you are wanting colour scales applied.
  2. With the cells highlighted click on the ‘Home‘ tab and then click ‘Conditional Formatting‘.
  3. Within the dropdown select ‘Colour Scales‘ and then select your preferred colour scheme.

Your colour scale will then be applied to your selected cells along with your selected colour gradient.
