Microsoft Excel – Create a map chart

In this post we will be creating a map chart within Excel, a map chart will allow us to display data on a map. These charts can be beneficial for displaying data that has a correlation with geographical locations, including sales figures by region, population counts by country, and weather information by city. To create a map chart carry out the following steps below.

  1. Start by highlighting the part of your spreadsheet that contains the names of the countries or locations.
  2. With the countries or locations highlighted click on the ‘Data‘ tab along the top and then click ‘Geography‘ within the data types section in the top ribbon. This step will convert your entered countries and locations in to Geography data making it recognisable to our map chart.
  3. Highlight again the names of the countries or locations as well as the data you are wanting charted.
  4. With your data highlighted click on the ‘Insert‘ tab along the top and then click on ‘Maps‘ and then ‘Filled maps‘.
